Power of Poetry: If Not Spoken Then It Won't Be Heard ReviewReviewed by Paige Lovitt for Reader Views (3/07)"Power of Poetry: If Not Spoken Then It Won't Be Heard," has some very gritty, thought-provoking poems contained in it. These words are well-written; it is the feelings that the words convey that inspire raw emotions. Some of the words struck chords deep within me. For Lovelace to write those poems, she has shared some similar experiences with me. For me, while I could only feel the emotions of the situations being written about, Lovelace finds a way to put the emotions on paper so that the world can see them and either relate to them or just share in the feelings being conveyed. This ability to express her emotions is a true gift for her. She also writes poems about topics that I haven't related to, but give me insight into the feelings involved with those issues such as the poem, "Black."
It surprised me how a book that is only 86 pages managed to stir up so many emotions and raw feelings so quickly. Lovelace doesn't just write about the painful stuff, she divides her poems into three sections: Lust; Love; and Think! Each of the poems contained within have something for everybody. I really enjoyed her Lust section. This is a great book of poetry for adults. There are some grammatical errors that I found somewhat distracting in some of the poems. Overall, I highly recommend "Power of Poetry" to fans of poetry - it invokes deep emotional responses.
