World English: From Aloha to Zed ReviewI've always loved books like this, particularly differences between British English and American English.
Sadly I found many explanations/definitions of British usage to be either completely unknown to me, wrong or off target in some way. I feel I can talk relatively authoritatively in that my father is Scots, my mother from the south-west of England, I was brought up in Wales and moved to London over 25 years ago.
I also have a BA and an MA in linguistics.
I'd quite happily tell the author which words and expressions are debatable if I thought I could readily do so.
I assume Robert Hendrickson is American and that therefore the U.S. expressions are correct (are they?) but it would be interesting to see whether other nationalities agree with his definitions.
Nevertheless there are many (British) expressions which I didn't realise were rare in the U.S.World English: From Aloha to Zed Overview
