101 Spanish Verbs with 101 Videos for Your iPod (101... Language Series) ReviewI came across this in a local bookstore chain and grabbed it up quick!
I'm always looking for new and innovative ways to connect Spanish to my students' worlds. When I saw this, I knew I had a winner. My Spanish II students are in the middle of learning the last few tenses in Spanish, and I can see (as I do every year) that they are starting to get a little mixed up. This is a fun, "hip" way to create a memory device. I had complete ease in transferring the CD to my computer and then to my iPhone. My own 5 young children are enjoying watching and practicing verbs in a new way (thus far, they have been learning conversationally.)
About the video product:
+ the verb-bots are easy to see, do not speak themselves, and usually do some action for about 20 to 30 seconds. Then they pause and a native male voice says the verb that is flashed on the screen in Spanish. He then says a fairly short sentence in Spanish that fully describes the movie. When he said "bee-bots" in the Spanish sentence, I didn't understand it until I heard the English translation: Bee-Bots. After the Spanish sentence, he repeats it again in his relatively thick accent in English. Really cute.
+ After the sentence, the 20 second video plays again.
+Within the video, the verb appears somewhere. Sometimes it makes up the furniture, or a blob of paint, or floats in the air. But it's there somewhere.
-I wish they repeated the verb at the end once more. (Small issue, but hearing it once more would be highly beneficial for memorization and learning correct pronunciation.)
About the Book part:
+ The pictures are repeated here, which are GREAT!
+ There is a colorful chart that gives the verbs conjugated for you.
+ The pages are slick and full color and this book will be around for a LONG time. Very sturdy.How I'll be using this:
I'm hoping that I can hook my iPhone to a TV screen and show one or two verbs in a few classes between now and the end of the semester. I also have seen in the book that the publisher has more teaching tools which I will be researching immediately. I feel this is a great way to make the language come alive for my students who are accustomed to all the technology they can get their hands on.
Overall:
GREAT self-study product, fun for all ages. You can find something in here for EVERY Spanish student. Even as a refresher, these little videos are pretty entertaining. And the cute factor is HIGH!
