Coronach ReviewIn short, this is a masterpiece. If you're looking for a "feel good" book or a light read, Coronach is not for you. If you want a piercingly authentic glimpse into the human psyche, Coronach will satisfy immensely. This is not an easy read. Be patient, and do not give up; you will reap the rewards of your persistence. As the saying goes, "Life happens"; the characters of Coronach portray this truth with a tragically stark realism that is painful both for them and for the reader. They love and hate with equally fierce passion. They suffer war, cold, and deprivation; they experience paradise. They endure the loss of innocence; they seek revenge. They are no strangers to degradation and cruelty; they recognize beauty in utter simplicity. The amount of historical, linguistic, and cultural research that had to have gone into this volume is astounding and sets it far above the average historical novel. Additionally, Kimberley Reeman is a masterful wordsmith whose lexical and phraseological choices are often nothing short of genius. The world of Coronach is one of socio-political upheaval; the story spans both generations and geography. It is simultaneously startlingly disturbing and intensely gratifying. I am certain its historicity is above reproach; its greatest revelations, however, are communicated through the universally manifest psychological and sociological frailties of that which we call human nature. Well done, Kimberley Reeman!Coronach OverviewScotland, July 1746: an army of occupation ravages the Highlands, committing atrocities with consequences that will reverberate across generations. From this bloody cataclysm, the hardened professional soldier Mordaunt saves an infant who becomes his heiress and his obsession: on his shattered estate, a traumatised Franco-Scottish laird, Ewen Stirling, offers protection to a boy damaged by unspeakable horror. These lives, fatally bound, unfold against the turbulence of the eighteenth century, in a magnificent, uncompromising saga of love and the human cost of war.
