Communicate: A Student's Pocket Guide to Deaf Community Terminology is set up in a dictionary format to allow the American Sign Language (ASL) student easy access to the many terms, acronyms and names of organizations which are an important part of the Deaf community. The contents give a brief synopsis of each term and organization which saves an inordinate amount of time when searching for the correct definition or explanation. The pocket size is great for carrying and quick access. I find this book very helpful when I don't have the resources with me to look up a definition that is unfamiliar to me.
Jay's book can be purchased singly or as part of her three book series which is wonderful for the serious ASL student. I highly recommend the entire series of three books which also include; Don't Just "Sign"... Communicate: A Student's Guide to Mastering ASL Grammar and Don't Just "Sign"... Communicate: A Student's Guide to ASL and the Deaf Community.
