Colloquial Welsh: The Complete Course for Beginners (Colloquial Series) ReviewThis course starts out very well introducing the student to Welsh pronunciation. BUT, the mix of southern and northern dialects gets confusing. Which do you learn? I think Routledge should s l o w down and provide more audio of the languages they publish courses for. Perhaps the lessons' vocabulary lists could be added to the audio, and perhaps the dialogs could be spoken at both a slow speed and natural, colloquial speed. This is the fault of both Routledge's Colloquial series and the Teach Yourself series. Too much, too fast, and too discouraging for the learner. Also, the annoying voice of the English person introducing the lessons should be minimized. Folks are trying to learn the languages taught by these courses, but Routledge does a bad job of focusing on the target language. I've improved my British English more with these courses than the target languages of the courses. Routledge: you don't need so much in the way of introducing the lessons in English. We have the course book which does what the narrator speaks about on the audio. Eliminate that aspect of your courses, improve the audio content as noted above, and your courses will be "top notch!"
