Starting Out in Chinese ReviewThis audio CD is the best I have found for learning the fundamentals of the Chinese language. Instead of teaching a lot of phrases that you simply memorize, which was difficult for me, you learn the basics of verbs, pronouns, possessives, etc. so you can form your own sentences when you don't know the exact phrase to use. It will be enough for you to be understood. This program left me feeling like the Chinese spoken language is actually much easier than English. You will learn that Chinese has no articles (the, an, a), that there are no verb tenses, all pronouns use the same form of the verb, there are no plurals, etc. You will be amazed at how words make sense. Words that are similar look similar. For instance, words about education have components in common. Once you understand this, it makes memorizing nouns and verbs much easier. If you listen to this CD over and over, I promise you will form a fantastic base to continue your Chinese language acquisition.
