Just Speaking My Mind, Spoken Word Poetry Vol.1 (Volume 1) ReviewThe Author allows the reader to feel every emotion he is feeling. Many Women have wanted to hear Men share the emotions on many of the topics Mr. Washington is sharing with us. Also, the Author is sharing emotions many of us Men have been wanting to speak on, but afraid. He speaks on so many issues that my family and I can relate to. The poem "Different Last Names" really hit me hard, because I went through the same thing with my daughter. There is a poem called "Open Your Eyes" in which the Author speaks about the mishandling of the rescue efforts of the beautiful people of New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina and he doesnt hold his tongue about how he feels the government handled it. I had 10 of my relatives from New Orleans living with me during that time so I can definately understand what he was talking about. I can go on and on about this book but the Author also has a very deep poem named "You Were Never There", its the story of a little girl growing up from birth into her adult life as a woman and all of the things she went through without her father being a part of her life. This poem will make any dad who is not active in the life of his child to immediately want to become a part of his or her life. Last but not least he has poems full of passion that Women will enjoy such as "Poetic Love Making" in which he compares his Passion for writing poetry to Making Love. My Wife really enjoyed that poem. Avery Washington will when your hearts with this great read full of Inspiration, Hope, Love and Awareness. God has truly blessed you Mr.Washington and continue to touch others with your writing! This book is a MUST READ for everyone! A great Christmas Gift!

New Interchange 2 Lab guide: English for International Communication (New Interchange English for International Communication) ReviewHaving never used the first edition of this series, I picked up New Interchange Level 1 so that I could have a structured series to help my students learn general basic English skills. I have been pleased, and find that overall it is a good series to teach from. THE GOOD: Each chapter in New Interchange has a good variety of skills to learn and practice. Students are constantly engaged in reading, writing, listening, speaking, learning new vocabulary and practicing new grammar rules. The content isn't too heavy, and the book makes good use of color and white space so as not to overwhelm the student. I find that the structure of each chapter is constant and reliable so that the students become used to how things are done. The tapes and Teacher's Guide are invaluable! The workbook provides additional practice of concepts that the students have just learned in the student book. All of these resources combine to make it incredibly easy for me (as a teacher) to prepare and give good lessons. THE BAD: I have found that my students are often confused with the grammar exercises. What may seem like clear-cut explanations to a native English speaker obviously aren't that clear to the learners. I am also a little saddened by the fact that each chapter really doesn't go into great depth for any one skill or theme. Each skill is presented, learned and practiced in what sometimes feels like a rushed manner. I have also found it difficult to present an entire chapter in two one-and-a-half hour sessions, as the authors suggest.OVERALL: A good series with lots of skills practice. It is very useful for learners who want to study a variety of general English skills. Very nice for overworked teachers who don't have a lot of time to prepare lessons.New Interchange 2 Lab guide: English for International Communication (New Interchange English for International Communication) OverviewNew Interchange is a multi-level series for adult and young-adult learners of English from the beginning to the high-intermediate level.The Lab Guide can be purchased for use with the Lab Audio Cassettes. The guide provides varying levels of support for the learner: Part A contains only the directions to each exercise, Part B contains the script for each exercise without the responses, and Part C contains the complete script for each exercise with the responses.
