Praying Twice: The Music and Words of Congregational Song ReviewWren is one of the most accomplished living hymn-writers in the English language. Who better then to remind us of the importance of strong singing for Christian worship? I have cherished this book myself since it appeared, but this year I have also made it required reading for the seminarians I teach in my Introduction to Worship course. It is an ideal source for anyone who wishes an engaging treatment of the history of singing in worship and a fair-minded discussions of the issues such as the use of contemporary music and inclusive language.Praying Twice: The Music and Words of Congregational Song OverviewAn exploration of the theological significance of congregational song, asking how music has meaning for its singers, and considering the importance of contemporary music worship. Brian Wren argues that a hymn is a complex art form, deserving of recognition and study for its contributions to worship, education and pastoral care. Because text, tune and the combination of both when sung have theological meaning and formative power, ministers and other worship leaders have as much need to learn about them as their musical counterparts.

A Complete Guide to Sermon Delivery ReviewPreachers and public speakers will find this book useful. Fasol discusses the body language and pathos aspects of communication by giving the principles of proper vocal production and articulation, effective facial expression, eye contact, posture, gestures, etc. This book is written with preachers in mind, but certainly any public speaker would find it effective for bringing to mind these often-forgotten areas of communication. I don't think the title of the book ("Complete Guide...") is entirely accurate, but it is a helpful book none the less.A Complete Guide to Sermon Delivery OverviewChapter one establishes a seven-fold approach-the Disciplers' Model-to Christian teaching. This model was developed in response to a question that would not let the author go-'How should I teach so that my learners will grow in the Lord?'

God Has Spoken ReviewThis wonderful book is written with the premise our churches suffer from "a famine of hearing the words of our Lord" despite the availability and advantages of a plethora of Biblical tools, expositors, and communicative mediums. Packer analyzes the reasons for the churches' spiritual lethargy, which has evolved due to faulty presuppositions and perceptions that have indoctrinated themselves into the Christian mindset through modern Biblical criticism and current philosophical trends. Packer addresses these errant views and reestablishes the proper Biblical precepts necessary for the church to regain its perspicacity and vitality in studying the Word of God.
God Has Spoken OverviewIn this sequel to Knowing God, J. I Packer maintains that anyone who wants to know God will want to know as much as he or she can of what is in the Bible. Here, he presents the case for the reliability of the Bible and urges us to return with open hearts to reading God's word and to discover its overwhelming power in our lives.

Prayers Plainly Spoken ReviewHauerwas doesn't just pray in a plain fashion ...
The classical language of the Christian tradition is brilliantly woven in, with snippets of belly-splitting subversiveness (e.g. his prayer to the Ultimate Reality at a Duke University academic luncheon). Hauerwas' enemies may like to retitle this book "Prayers Vulgarly Spoken", but he also has a prayer for them, too!
This only gets a 4 star, because some of the other theology books I've rated are true classics (in comparison). But this does not take away from the FUN and CONVICTION that Hauerwas brings to the stuffy halls of theological reflection.Prayers Plainly Spoken OverviewA collection of prayers, in everyday language, that display an invigorating faith and demonstrate how Christians can pray with all the passion, turbulence and life of the ancient psalmist. The book is divided into three sections: "Beginnings"; "Living in Between"; and "Endings".--This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
